“The successful outcome of this convention has proved that we retain the capacity and credibility to bring ultimate change both in character and in morals to this great nation.” – Njoku Jerry A
Labour party National convention that took place today 27th March, in the outskirt of Nnewi, Anambra’s center of commerce ended with surprises and high expectation for the party that took the Nigeria political space by storm in the last presidential election.
Amidst several controversies that finally brought the convention to a successful conclusion, the National Chairman Mr. Julius Abure, the man who witnessed and led the national miracle that brought the party a political windfall of about 35 lawmakers in the National and State Assembly including a State governor emerged as the National Chairman for a second term of office covering another 4 year tenure as amended by the party’s constitution.
No doubt the outcome of the event may have disappointed many critics of the success of the party that has painstakingly earned its rating as Nigeria’s political third force as the event began and ended in peace amidst heavy presence of security operatives.
There were no such scenes of bickering, shouting and confusion common among Nigeria political gathering rather the entire atmosphere appeared calm from the beginning until the end of the event. Party delegates and observers in attendance exhibited that high sense of responsibility portrayed by the leadership of the party as men and women from a party that has vowed to reset the Nigeria political ecosystem.
Among the highlights at the convention center was the appointment of the Abia State Chairman Chief Ceekay Igara to the office of the National Vice Chairman South East, replacing Chief Innocent Okeke who has completed his second tenure of office.
By this appointment, Chief Ceekay Igara seizes to be the Abia State Chairman as he takes oath of office with other members of the National Working Committee at the convention center.
Speaking with the Abia State Publicity Secretary of Labour Party Comrade Njoku Jerry Ajike at the convention center, he expressed satisfaction at the outcome of the event;
Mr. Njoku said; “The successful outcome of the event today has affirmed our position as the party with the solution to Nigeria’s awful political situation, despite all the social media misrepresentation of events in the party, the outcome of this convention can attest to the peaceful and harmonious situation in the leadership of the party which some individuals had tried to unruffled to score cheap political mileage.”
“You asked me about what’s next in Abia State now the State Chairman has been removed, Well, he has only been elevated as you can see, he was called up for the appointment as National Vice Chairman, South East creating a vacuum for his position in Abia State.
“I want to believe he has served creditably in that capacity and when the opportunity arises for higher roles, he did not hesitate and willingly accepted to serve in that capacity. By that singular action he has willingly relinquished his position as the State Chairman and that automatically calls for a replacement.” “Perhaps this is what you should portray in your report to the general public and should not cite ‘Removal’ in the context of elimination.” Said Mr. Njoku
“More so, asking about what’s next in Abia State Labour Party, the SWC will decide that at the appropriate time as there will be no room for vacuum as the former State Chairman is sworn in today in his new role.”
“I want to assure you that all is well in Abia State, as you can see the Abia State delegation was well represented more than every other state present here today and the National Chairman of our great party, Mr. Julius Abure did not fail to give our hardworking governor the credits for doing this great party proud with his exemplary leadership that has become legendary.”
“This is what Labour Party represents, the Change that Nigeria deserves so much and the outcome of this convention has proved that we retain the capacity and credibility to bring ultimate change both in character and in morals to this great nation.” And coming back to Abia State, at the appropriate time, you will be duly notified of the position of the party and who will stand in for the departed Chairman although in Acting capacity. Said Mr. Njoku
