Failure to implement the laws on Electronic transmission of election result will be devastating – Peter O. Ameh

As PDP battles to put itself in order with the increasing defections by its strong members to the ruling party, the golden lesson remains that; “We must always work for posterity instead of protecting our selfish interest.”

In an interview with the Chairman, Intra Party Advisory Council (IPAC) and former Presidential aspirant High Chief Peter Ojonugwa-Ameh, he maintained that failure of INEC and other none state actors to reposition the electoral system in Nigeria for the benefits of all will boomerang regrettably. More so, he counseled all concerned on the need to put more pressure on those responsible for enacting and implementing the laws of the electoral system to do the right thing now they have the opportunity.

“I have come to understand through personal observations that many Nigerian politicians and the Nigerian electorates are either Politically ignorant, Political illiterate or as in most instances rarely cared less about political activities by the manner, they view elections and issues of Political participation.”
“I am of the opinion that if you don’t fix the problems of the loopholes in our electoral system regarding result collation and delivery, we will always live to regret our actions as it will always come back to haunt us.” He said.

We may choose to pick an example from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and ask them how they feel now about their elected members cross carpeting to APC because I remembered how PDP vividly opposed strong amendment against defection laws because they were the beneficiary of almost all the defections between 1999 to 2015. Today as they said; “The chickens have come home to roost” As PDP battles to put itself in order with the increasing defections by its strong members to the ruling party, the golden lesson remains that; “We must always work for posterity instead of protecting our selfish interest.”

Bad leaders are elected because of those who refused to participate in the right decisions.

if you don’t fix the problems of the loopholes in our electoral system regarding result collation and delivery, we will always live to regret our actions

Today, those who consider themselves privileged by their political placements and affiliations are fighting tooth over nails to frustrate the passing of the bill on “Electoral Transmission of Election Results” whereas it is a known fact that Electronic transmission of election result will almost put an end to the criminal history of election manipulations in Nigeria that occurs from polling Stations to Collation centres therefore I am amazed why many Nigerians including both electorates and politicians are not putting pressures on their representatives to stand up for what will be in their collective interest in the political administration of this country.

We need this particular clause in our electoral laws to become a reality in order to make sure that the outcome of our Elections reflect the true wishes of the Nigeria people.

It will put an end to ballot box snatching, ballot stuffing, forgery of election result and presentation of fake election result and most importantly, thuggery will die a natural death.

I will advise those of us outside the law-making body that has voted them as representatives of the people should as a matter of urgency pressurize them to do what is right and would be beneficial to all in the end. We will be repeating the mistake of PDP when the ball was in their court and contributing to our own predicament if we don’t mount pressure on the National Assembly over the issues of Electronic transmission of election result.
