The Osun victory, Alex Otti and the Abia people’s mandate

“As in Osun State, we will replicate the victory of 2015 in Abia State”– Njoku Jeremiah, LP Publicity Secretary, Abia State”

By Eric Egwu Mba

Speaking on the outcome of the 16th July Osun Polls, the State Publicity Secretary of Labour Party, Abia state Comrade Njoku Jeremiah Ajike had declared that Abia is another state in Nigeria that has the capacity to replicate such victory for the party’s flagbearer Dr. Alex Otti, in the coming 2023 gubernatorial elections.

Mr. Njoku, responding to journalist at the recently concluded polls in Osun state, said; “As in Osun State, we will replicate the victory of 2015 in Abia State.”
What happened at the governorship polls in Osun state on the 16th of July has proved that age old axiom that you cannot hold for too long what you stole from the people.”

Senator Adeleke, by the people’s choice won the gubernatorial election of 2018 just as we had it here in Abia state in 2015 with Dr. Alex Otti and the incumbent who was then a product of extreme political manipulation by the ruling party in Abia state.
All that rerun and delay tactics in 2015 after the regular primaries was all in a bid to hold onto what does not belong to you, victory for Senator Adeleke has shown it was a clear statement that people of Osun never wanted Oyetola and his APC, just as we experienced it here when credible personalities like Dr. Alex Otti was on the ballot in 2015, However by whatsoever means of rigging machinery available to those holding Abia state down, they had to maneuver their way into government even when it was very obvious the people of Abia as in the case of Osun state never wanted APC and their likes.

“You cannot owe virtually everybody in Abia State, owing the teachers, health workers, leaving schools shut down for months bringing the state to so much ridicule, yet has the moral courage to foist another individual to take over from you

Everything that played out in Abia in 2015 also took place in Osun in 2018 as the people watched in disbelief, anger and frustration how their mandate was stolen in broad day light using every available means of manipulation, just to make sure that the people’s mandate is suffocated.

I remembered very well, we were all present in Umuahia, how the Ikpeazu camp remain jittery, losing sleep because to everyone holding on to that paper victory, it was crystal clear, the Alex Otti camp may catch their hands in the pot of soup and it will be over and I must commend our principal, Dr. Alex Otti, he fought a good fight of faith like a man, he took it to every level possible but you know the system in operation in Nigeria, it is so corrupt even in the Judiciary, a picture of the celebration of that pyric victory of PDP that circulated on the social media was a scene that had Okezie Ikpeazu and his group in a Chartered aircraft from Abuja flying back to base and that was the beginning of the doomsday people of Abia state are still enmeshed in till date.

“Everything that played out in Abia in 2015 also took place in Osun in 2018 as the people watched in disbelief, anger and frustration how their mandate was stolen in broad day light using every available means of manipulation, just to make sure that the people’s mandate is suffocated

More so, I am in doubt if they have overcome that fear of holding onto what does not belong to them with the re-emergence of Alex Otti, this time on the side of the People’s party, the Labour Party.
On the Labour Party candidate Lasun Yusuf coming 4th in the polls, it is understandable, Labour party is gaining grounds but it was a good situation to test the waters and reposition the party in other states where we are fielding candidates.
And one thing Nigerians must understand is that, the people’s mandate bestowed on Senator Adeleke’s had been in custody of the wrong people since 2018, so when the opportunity called for the people to stand up to their tormentors, they rose up en-mass – that is what is going to happen in Abia state with the re-emergence of Dr. Alex Otti.
The people of Abia state are going to rise up enmass and enforce the mandate they had bestowed on Alex Otti as the most credible candidate well equipped with the acumen of leadership to develop this state and create viable means of economic sustainability for the people.

Today Nigeria, with the emergence of characters like Peter Obi in mainstream politics have changed drastically, and Labour Party has created that platform of discipline and character where committed individuals with background experience in wealth creations and managing public trust are the choice candidates, take for instance the emergence of Senator Yussuf Ahmed Datti as the Vice President nominee to Peter Obi and coming down to our own state here in Abia, you will find out that among all the gubernatorial candidates presented in all the political parties, Dr. Alex Otti stands out in the class of the Peter Obi, Ahmed Datti and co, as Prudent economists, wealth creators and disciplined administrators that any nation or state should pursue vigorously to have them as your leaders.

“Labour Party has created that platform of discipline and character where committed individuals with background experience in wealth creations and managing public trust are the choice candidates,

Those men who use the Abia state people’s money to drink Champaign and frolic around displaying their pictures on social media as made public by Senator Smart Adeyemi at the floor of the national assembly were only able to do so because they do not have the interest of the people at heart and repeating such a mistake by the people of Abia would only bring grave consequences.
You cannot owe virtually everybody in Abia State, owing the teachers, health workers, leaving schools shut down for months bringing the state to so much ridicule, yet has the moral courage to foist another individual to take over from you

“Dr. Alex Otti stands out in the class of the Peter Obi, Ahmed Datti and co, as Prudent economists, wealth creators and disciplined administrators that any nation or state should pursue vigorously to have them as your leaders

Another lesson, we must learn from Adeleke’s victory in Osun is that apart from political party of affiliation, the Nigeria people are fed up with these party nomenclature, they want to elect such individuals that has the capacity to bring in development and improve on the welfare of the people in the state.
This is what we have resolved to replicate with the likes of Dr. Alex Otti in Abia state and more, using Labour Party as the most credible platform of ordinary people whose welfare and economic relevance has been so abused with this system owing virtually every sectors of the workforce including teachers and health workers.
