Choose your representative wisely; Save yourself the trauma of bad governance

Let people in the community begin to hold their state representative at the State house of Assembly responsible for those failures they keep heaping on the President of the Federation and State government

President of Gbogi Emmanuel Grassroots Foundation, Mr. Gbogiaran Emmanuel Dada, an indigene of Iwaro Oka in Àkókó South West Constituency, Ondo State is not comfortable with the existing buck passing by members of state legislative assemblies elected to represent people in the communities under their constituencies.

This is an anomaly, in a representative government system like ours, every arm of government has got special responsibilities assigned to it, right from the Federal level to the state, local government and the state parliament.

When the people begin to see every flaw in governance as a responsibility of government at the center, even in their immediate communities, there is a misrepresentation somewhere, it means the leaders of government at the grassroots level is deceiving the people who elected them into office.

“I am painfully concerned about the trauma our people at the grassroots level are facing whenever the issue of governance is mentioned.” It has become common place for every complains against bad governance to be heaped on the government at the center or at the state level while little is mentioned at the local government level or even at the state parliament where decision affecting people at the grassroots should be discussed.

Gbogi Emmanuel Dada

I cannot understand the position of a member of the state legislative assembly when people in his constituency are crying of lack of basic amenities like pipe-borne water, decaying community healthcare system, very bad roads to the farms and schools

Most disturbing is the mis-education of the citizenry to believe that all their problems emanate from Abuja, so what you hear from morning till night, day to day is President Mohammed Buhari done this, Buhari done that, even they still shifted blames to State governors.

“Democracy all over the world is a representative government and Nigeria is not an exception.”

I am using this medium to appeal to people at the grassroots level to shun patronizing individuals in this category who sees government position as a means to acquire money and live in affluence without the slightest concern for the people in the community especially the ones directly under their constituency – This is not acceptable by any standard!”

Choose your representative wisely and save yourself the trauma of endless complains that will bring you untold frustrations.  Let people in the community begin to hold their state representative at the State house of Assembly responsible for those failures they keep heaping on the President of the Federation and State government, until that is done, majority of members of the state house of assembly will continue to deceive the populace by their immediate gratifications.

People at the grassroots should understand fast that the money the man is spraying at every public function, making unsolicited donations here and there and living in stupendous affluence is part of the constituency allowance he was supposed to spend on the dilapidated healthcare system in your communities, the local schools, Bursaries for students, Youths and artisan’s empowerment.

As Nigeria warm up for the next election year. God willing, people at the grassroots level and communities should mark those who has not in any way represented them responsibly, do not let them return to the state house by every means necessary and save yourself the trauma of bad governance.
