How Dr. Chike Akunyili was murdered

In a somber account by son to the late Dr. Chike Akunyili “My dad was shot in the face by gunmen who opened fire on his vehicle at Nkpor, Anambra State.
According to one of his surviving son named Obumneme, a cousin accompanying his father in the vehicle survived the tragic attack.

The medical doctor and widower of a late Minister of Information, Dora Akunyili, was killed on Monday evening when he was returning from a commemorative lecture in honour of his late wife, Dora.
The Police Command in Anambra State, where the incident happened, has vowed to unravel the brains behind the murder.

Speaking with the BBC Igbo, Obumneme said that his dad was shot in the face by gunmen who opened fire on his vehicle at Nkpor, Anambra State.

“His driver and a Police officer assigned to him also died in the shooting. A cousin survived and is being treated in hospital,” Obumneme added.

They were driving back from the town of Nsukka in Enugu state after attending a lecture hosted by the University of Nigeria to pay tribute to the late NAFDAC DG, Dora.
Mischief makers had attributed the shocking scenario to increasing activities of members of the Eastern Security Force, a militant arm of the Indigenous People of Biafra, however in a swift reaction Spokesperson to the organization Comrade Emma Powerful has reacted with a stern warming to those struggling to rope IPOB into their political hooliganism to desist from doing so or be visited with dire consequences.

In his statement “IPOB do not concern itself with Nigeria’s politics and has nothing to do with Nigeria and its politicians, our mission is focused and that is the actualization of Biafra.”

It is an abomination to shed innocent blood in Igbo land and that is the last thing IPOB will ever consider, on its part, members of the ESN has vowed to bring to book all foot soldiers of the Nigeria political elites that has been sent to South East to foment trouble using the coming November election in Anambra state as a battle field. IPOB used the occasion to warn all responsible citizens to go about their business lawfully and should not engage in any manner that will undermine the peace and security of people of the South East.
