South East, Marks Biafra Hero Day with nostalgic story of men that took severe sacrifices

By Egwugwu

On the 29th of May 1969 a young man called Bruce Mayrock set himself on fire outside the UN HQ in New York as a protest against the brutal killing by Nigerian soldiers of Biafran children at the time. Bruce Mayrok was 20 years old at the time he set himself on fire in the UN garden to dramatize his plea for an end to killing and destruction of Biafrans in the Nigerian war.

Today, Biafrans all over the world, remember this Hero.

Bruce Mayrock’s surviving son in Leicester City UK, showed a traumatized Nigerian from the South East who visited their family house in the UK many pictures taken by his father that BBC refused to publish.

In the unamed visitors’ statement, “He told me that his father told his mother to keep all the pictures safe which his mother did.

“He told me that his father told them that he was going to a meeting in Geneva Switzerland as a journalist in the UN Headquarters, not knowing he was going to burn himself because of the Biafran Genocide. He said that before his father left, he called his mother and himself and told them saying “Am doing the work of God for this people in Africa, today I am leaving to spread the report of their killing spearheaded by my own country UK in Geneva Switzerland, all the pictures and newspapers I published about their killings, Please keep it safe, this people will rise up again if they are not free today, the coming Generation will never allow the sacrifice of their fathers to be in vain. Remember my family are Biafrans not UK citizens. He left and never returned alive, only for us to receive news of his tragic death on the pages of the Newspaper
