Where is the newly inaugurated Ohaneze Ndigbo?

Culled

Where is the newly inaugurated Ohaneze Ndigbo executive led by the President General, Senator Azuta Mbata from Rivers State. Since this man was installed as the new President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, I haven’t read any of his statements regarding the general well being of Ndigbo, nor have I seen him on television talk about his vision for the political and economic emancipation of Ndigbo in Nigeria. He and his team have been aloof and acting as if everything is ok with Ndigbo.

It’s very unfortunate that our political leaders are tacitly, directly or indirectly in support of the state of affairs of Ndigbo in Nigeria today. In every budgetary year, the entire south east is excluded from benefitting from some developmental projects such as roads, railway lines, power plants, gas pipelines and other critical projects and services that would help the area for economic development. The irony of this is that our elected representatives at both the Senate and HOR were in their chambers when these budgetary appropriation bills were passed.

What we hear or read every year are Supper Lagos+Calabar Coastal Road, Lagos-Kano Rail Project, Badagry-Sokoto Supper Highway, Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway, Abuja -Kaduna-Kano Railway lines, Kano-Katsina-Niger railway lines. You hardly hear or read any of these capital intensive projects linking the south east.  Even, South East is the hub of Gas in Nigeria. But, the government has no intention to build any gas plants in the south east. The original gas pipelines laid out by Ukachukwu were cancelled and redesigned by Buhari to exclude the south east from benefitting. Instead it’s now drawn to run from Kogi through Abuja to Kaduna, Kano, katsina and Niger Republic -KAKKK PIPELINES (whatever name they call it)

The question is, does it mean that our leaders are not in the know about all these long drawn battles against the south east? The marginalization of Ndigbo is quite glaring since APC took over power from PDP? The federal government of Nigeria under APC have long decided to emasculate the south east politically and economically. These political leaders may not understand what’s going on until they leave the office. I hate Dave Umahi and Hope Uzodimma for their utterances and ridiculous statements they make to defend APC. This Umahi and Uzodimma stand out as the worst Igbo leaders ever. The Igbo Nation was better off politically between 1979 till 2015 when APC took over power.

I think it’s high time our leaders- political leaders , religious leaders,  business leaders, civil society, market men and women, lawyers , students, academic leaders, Igbos in the diaspora, movie industry, transporters, farmers, traditional leaders and host of others -came together in an organized conference to chat course of Ndigbo in Nigeria. It’s high time we held high level talks to chat our way forward in Nigeria. We must put politics and political affiliations aside. The future of our children is more important than what these politicians are getting personally.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu stood out as the only voice crying in the wilderness but, since his arrest and incarceration, Igbos have lost their voices in the deep ocean of personal aggrandizement. Does it mean that without Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the voices of Ndigbo will not be heard. This is the time for Ndigbo to rise up and demand  equality and justice from the Nigerian government or we go our separate ways.  The recent glitches in JAMB examination is a clear indication that the level of marginalization and subjugation is creeping deeper and deeper. We shouldn’t close our eyes pretending all is well with us.  We’re at a crossroad in Nigeria. We’re an endangered race in Nigeria. It’s time to wake up and act fast with precision
