The new Abia, Otti and LP: Sustaining a legacy

By Njoku Saintjerry A

As we approach the LG elections here in Abia State, there have been a common political development that is simply aimed at diverting the attention of residents and citizens from a common goal of pursuing development focused Leadership to devoting precious time and energy to windy political argument that does nobody any good but put the populace in a retrogressive cycle of divisive politics that continue to rob the people of quality leadership and development.

it is a common phenomenon in every political dispensation and the mission has always remained the same – Distract, Divide and Destroy.

Labour Party in Abia State in the course of the LG elections found itself entangled in such vicious web of political manipulation, and till date, the leadership of the party has been making frantic efforts to cross that divide for a peaceful resolution

Political resolution is necessary in solving matters of political exigencies and that is where the ball falls on all political actors both stakeholders and members of the ruling party to take a closer look and see what we have achieved in the past 17months.

It has not been a journey of bread and butter but of struggle and sacrifices to pull Abia and its people away from the dungeon of a mess and retrogressive situations of yesterday before the emergence of Labour Party.

Just as Mr. Peter Obi is synonymous with the Obidients in Labour Party, the man Dr. Alex Otti, the Executive Governor of Abia State, represents the New Abia, a new beginning cautiously carved out from the rot, underdevelopment and ridicule of yesterday orchestrated by political state actors who led Abians deep into that circle of infamy.

When Critics of the Otti Labour Party led Government have had a hard time struggling to undersell the concept of the New Abia to no avail, they resort to mudslinging and caustic gossiping.

The political situation leading to the LG elections is a breeding ground for all kind of rumors and gossip, many untrue, swift and baseless while some are certainly factual, as the kind of leadership Gov Otti had brought into the governance of ABIA State and management of its economic resources, this is a fact and a legacy no one can take away from the Otti’s Government

It is a principle introduced by Labour Party, the doctrine of labor and productivity, responsibility to your people and their environment and being accountable to the people under your leadership.

This is a legacy the Labour Party Government under the astute leadership of Gov Otti is taking to the grassroots, and has been very careful not to take the people’s support for granted, which gave birth to the idea of consensus candidacy in the forthcoming LG elections.

No doubt, certain mistakes and political miscalculation may have happened and the Otti’s Government at no time has admitted perfectionist rather he once declared his openness to learn and make corrections where mistakes has been observed.

This is a Legacy in leadership 101, admitting your errors and correcting it, maintaining a focus on the goal post until you score the golden goal,

In doing that, you will  be exemplifying a character worth the attention of both local and foreign interest. Abia is on that ranking today among states driving FDI into the country. That is a legacy worth reckoning and only made possible by the kind of political and administrative leadership the Labour Party Government under H.E. Gov Alex Otti had exemplified

H.E. Governor Otti is leaving footprints in the sands of time, and space may not avail me to begin to enumerate them but as long as ABA continue to attract a growing IGR and an influx of citizens relocating from Lagos and the North to Aba, as long as many world acclaimed institution continue to invite Gov Alex Otti to share his experience of leadership in Nigeria most challenged sector, that is a legacy to etch in marble, that is what the Labour Party is taking down to the Grassroots, a leadership by the people and for the people.
