Abia LP not in crisis; remain formidable and worthy of the trust bestowed upon us as a Party of the people – Publicity Secretary

By Eric Mba, Chuks Iloegbulam, Vera Chikelu

Amidst the lingering crisis in the leadership of Labour Party emanating from the recently concluded meeting of candidates and stakeholders of the party hosted by the Abia State governor Dr. Alex Otti, without the involvement of the leadership of the party both at the state and national level, State Publicity Secretary of Labour Party Abia Comrade Njoku Jerry AJIKE in an interview response to journalist declared that Labour Party in Abia state is not in crisis.

Responding to questions from journalists who visited the party headquarters in Umuahia, Mr. NJOKU issued a statement and warned detractors and individuals he described as enemies of the state to desist from parading falsehood under the guise of opposition.

When asked to speak on the recent announcement of a Caretaker Committee by Governor Alex Otti to midwife a congress from the national down to the ward, the outcome which is generating heated controversy in the party, Mr. Njoku declined comment.

However, when pushed further, he said:

“We the members and leadership of Labour Party Abia state are not at loggerheads with anyone, the governor is our leader and duly recognized in his status as leader of the party in Abia State and there is no gainsaying that his leadership has brought so much dividends to governance in Abia State, these are the realities we should focus our energy on and not on political matters that are constitutionally binding on every member of the party.

Like I had said earlier, the leadership of the party has the capacity to douse every tension in the party, you journalists should not escalate a matter over a teacup, suddenly bloggers and all social media handlers has seen a topic to drive traffic upon, the most worrisome is that majority of the information are certain to be misleading.

I repeat, we the members and leadership of Labour Party in Abia State are not in crisis, we do not have any known problem with the leader Governor Alex Otti, if there is any constitutional breaches, the party has got its own Internal mechanism to address that in line with our party constitution, this does not call for Public debate or vague argument whose intentions are often to discredit a Government that is committed to its campaign promises.

The governor remains our principal and as custodian of the people votes and ultimate desires for responsive governance, we do still hold him in the highest esteem and as a leader committed to the principle of democracy and quality governance that the people of Abia has desired for all the donkey years and I want you and every responsible citizen of Abia to take this home, that Labour Party remains our political platform of hope for a better governance and a people oriented model democracy that Nigeria as a country continue to yearn for although it continues to elude them until they get someone like like Gov Alex Otti who is genuinely committed to the people’s welfare and development of the economic indicators of the land.

There is no problem that has risen within the party that is alien to us as political state actors and genuine democrats therefore I want to use this medium to encourage Abians and all people of goodwill to continue to trust us as sincere custodians of the people’s political will for good governance, we will not fail them.

More so as a model political party that has proven beyond doubt that the welfare of the people and infrastructure development of the means of sustenance of the environment that harbours the people is our priority, we do not want to lose focus on the reasons why Abians unanimously elected our candidates, that belief and trust in us cannot be taken for granted

Take my words to the bank that I, Njoku Jerry A, the state Publicity Secretary of the party said there is no misunderstanding or faceoff in the party that we cannot overcome and that is with the highest wisdom, I have gone to my Ward and spoken to them extensively and other leaders of the party are doing that too to diffuse the tension, we do not have any problem that is alien to every political party in Nigeria

Perhaps this is our own test of strength as a true Nigeria model democracy and we are going to prove it to the citizenry that Labour party in Abia is capable and worthy of the trust bestowed upon as a Party of the people and Government of the people and we are certainly going to disappoint those who may want to cash in on the growing impasse to cash out by increasing traffic to their website or gain unworthy relevance on the media space by spreading falsehood and rumors on events that are not there.

And for those in the opposition, let them prove it now that they have what it takes to be better than us and not engage in childish tantrums to discredit a working Government that the Nigeria and the world has approved as truly performing, It may interest you to learn that every member of the party is following that precedence of genuine leadership that is people oriented which our Governor H.E Dr. Alex Otti (OFR) has exemplified.

Therefore whether you’re in the opposition or neutral or headlines news commentators I want you to take this home that labour party government in Abia is still in control and committed to the original cause that made the people here to give us that overwhelming support and victory at the polls, we are not relenting and we won’t disappoint you and we will not fail either

Regarding the so much talked about congress that is generating all these controversy and the coming LG elections, I do not know why the people want to be faster than their shadows.

Neither the party nor it’s leadership has made any pronouncements on the Congress and the the LG elections.
Consultations are ongoing among the aspirants and their people and I hope it remains at that until announcement are made.

We had our State congress on 22 March 2022 and by the constitution of the party we shall remain in office until April 2025 unless the party leadership decide otherwise and regarding the coming LG elections and the role of the party, these are all constitutional affairs that the party has made clear provisions on its conduct so I do not understand the essence of the controversy, as law abiding individuals of the kind of change we want for our society I want to believe everyone will conduct himself and herself within this legal provisions of the party constitution

Rest assured we are not losing sleep over whatever situation we are facing now, we will definitely get to the roots of the matter in peace and like our motto says “Forward Ever!”

Thank you
