End bad Governance Protest ends in futility; exposes the deep rot in the Nigeria socio-political system

By Folarin Olajide

The much hyped #EndBad Governance# Protests that spread fears and anxieties all over the nation as it kicked off on the 1st of August finally came to an end with nothing achieved other than media hype and young people having fun letting off momentary steam.

The high point of the protests was when the same criminal politicians the youths had risen up in protests against were able to maneuver their ways and divided the camps with cash inducement, and in a manner almost unbelievable, the protests has been divided into several groups with some Protesting against the Protests and others Protesting in support  of their political leaders, and another group protesting for increase in size of fufu and so many irrelevant captions that clearly define the extent the young Nigerians has been psychologically disconnected from a promising future, ruined by their ruling elites.

While there were some youth leaders with genuine intention and passion to see a realistic change happen the protests only exposes the dangers of the rot with the Nigeria system, the protests has revealed that all you need to influence any decision including criminal and lawless behaviors and present them as acceptable standards without objections and get supporters even for your unlawful choice of life is to possess enough money, flaunt it in front of the average Nigerian and you will get whatever you want.

It is very unfortunate to admit that the present Nigeria political system has laid a very bad precedents for the next generation of Nigerian and that is what the Tinubu led APC administration clearly represents in his acclaimed electoral victory which reveals a clear betrayal of confidence on any Nigeria public institution including the Judiciary and that is what has just played out between 1st – 10th August 2024.

What happened in these 10 days of Protests beginning from 1st to 10tj August 2024 was a mere charade, a mockery of public outcry at injustice and call to responsibility of elected and appointed officers in government and an exposure into the rot of corruption and criminality that has eaten deep into the Nigeria cultural system.

In the end, the Protest has only ushered Nigerians into a bleak future of self destruction until the people begin to summon the courage to stand up against what is bad and evil and defend a just cause that will bring collective development to their nation and self.
