“There can be no Senate till the issue of wrongful and unconstitutional declaration of the 25th February, 2023 presidential election result is first resolved to everyone’s satisfaction” – Chief Odo Ijere
The recent orchestration of who will or will not become our Senate President is to me an unnecessary spiff to cause distraction and railroad the unfeeling among us into the wild goose chase.
First and foremost, some at the top of the noise like Orji Uzo Kalu has already fallen into the grave he dug with his hands. His Senate Presidency bid is inconsequential and also null and void. He does not possess the intellectual acumen to preside over the Senate.
The position of the Senate President carries with it a responsibility far too serious for the pedestrian minded. The Senate Presidency of this nation over time has been the exclusive preserve of those who at least passed through the rigors of good educational attainments. All of them we all know at least had or have provable educational qualifications to back their ambitions.
In the case of OUK, apart from the secondary school certificate he parades since 1999 which someone had claimed belongs to him, there has not been any other academic certificate attached to his educational attainment or quality, except some bogus claims of executive courses attaching world acclaimed citadel for show. That one can sit as the Senate Chief Whip is a far cry to being appointed to the headship of the Senate Presidency.
There is much more to it and definitely will not be for any charlatan. The Senate Presidency is not and should not be for the noisy, empty, parochial, myopic, insincere, banal, pedestrian, greedy, incoherent, ineligible, selfish, untrustworthy, educationally challenged, integrity challenged, rabble rousing, unconscionable, awaiting criminal prosecution and lack of character.
For the senators of the red chamber to get right the appointment of who will be the next Senate President, they must go back to the basics and tinker with their rule books on ranking with a view to jettisoning the offensive ranking clause that has qualified only criminals in today’s Senate as its leaders.
We must search for that senator with less baggage to be recommended for that position. A senatorial Presidency contest that only put on the frontline, Orji Uzo Kalu, Godswin Akpabio, David Umahi etal does not speak for the people neither is it speaking for democracy.
We should stop playing with fire by trepidation of the people’s intelligence and retract from the tendency to drive the country towards anarchy. This nation has been put on a one chance bus heading to nowhere exactly by desperate politicians. At every point the people are being coerced with our worst choices by these criminal elements.
We were forced into a choice of the devil and the deep blue sea by the same desperate politicians who gave us to choose a president between Atiku Abubakar of PDP and Bola Tinubu of APC. Both unqualified by all measurable yardstick to lead the nation to a progressive future. The masses ignored their insults and decided to chart their own cause by going for Peter Obi of the Labour Party.
They moved again and rigged the election to spite the Nigerian masses. While we’re still dealing with it at the Election Tribunal, the same busy bodies are treacherously mounting new roadblocks for us at the Senate. It is clear that some evil politicians are relentlessly driving the country into the precipice to disrupt the fragile peace that hold us together.
Whatever it is these guys are looking for will soon be served on all of us as dessert. There can be no Senate till the issue of wrongful and unconstitutional declaration of the 25th February, 2023 presidential election result is first resolved to everyone’s satisfaction.
You can take it to the bank that those presently fighting for the seat of the Presidency of the Senate are on a wild goose chase.
Odo Ijere, Okpotemba.
