“Democracy welcomes competition. Elections are designed to provide citizens with choices. However, there is a significant difference between offering a credible alternative and merely contesting for the sake of political visibility”
The jobbers syndicate behind Eric Opa have set him up for a big fall, given that there is a multiparty democratic arrangement in Nigeria with its attendant freedom of access association and assembly among political actors, performers and supporters, the people of Abia State generally thought across the three senatorial zones that Isialangwa North and South local government axis of this state remains the most favored part of the present arrangement whereby their eminent son Dr. Alex Chioma Otti is the current executive Governor while another of their son Pastor Caleb Ajagba is the present Chief Of Staff to the sitting Governor with several other top officials of the government chosen from same Isialangwa North and South local government areas.
While the majority of all other local government areas in this state have many qualified and eminent candidates who under normal circumstances would want to run for office of Governor in Abia but have clearly seen the developmental trajectory of the present administration and have duly and Cleverly restrained themselves from pursuing such ambitions in the immediate dispensation in good faith and respect for the performance of governor Alex Otti, why is it still the same Isialangwa axis propping up Eric Opa whose profession, occupation or vocation demonstrates a blank page except some spurious claims of things that remains unverifiable. Why is this their cleverest way of paying back their son who has brought in so much development and Goodwill to the good people of Isialangwa North and South local government areas of Abia State?
How did this Eric Opa suddenly become a messiah who will rubbish Otti’s already laudable three years achievement record? The case is that some crooks and political jobbers who believe that Mr Opa have got some change to spare in order to massage his ego are now out to fleece a fellow fraudster, who knows? But that’s most likely going to be the case since this criminal jobber’s syndicate knows already very well the type of defeat and shame Mr Opa will suffer at the end of this governorship contest by January 2027.
By all measurable standards, the debate ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Abia State should not merely revolve around political ambition. It should revolve around competence, preparedness, vision, credibility, and the capacity to sustain the momentum of development already underway.
Democracy welcomes competition. Elections are designed to provide citizens with choices. However, there is a significant difference between offering a credible alternative and merely contesting for the sake of political visibility. In a period when Abia is undergoing one of the most ambitious phases of reconstruction and institutional reform in its recent history, the state cannot afford to gamble its future on candidates whose primary qualification is the desire to occupy Government House.
The central question before Abians in 2027 should therefore be simple: Who possesses the preparation, track record, policy depth, and transformational vision necessary to surpass or at least sustain the pace already established by Governor Alex Otti?
If no convincing answer emerges, then political contests risk becoming distractions from the larger objective of building a prosperous and competitive Abia State.
