As the Labour party led government of Abia State under the astute leadership of Governor Alex Otti celebrates 3rd year anniversary of successful leadership reformation of the once dying state under previous administrations, The Abia State Government has announced a significant boost in its fiscal administration and a 60% reduction in its debt profile, describing it as a major milestone in ongoing fiscal reforms and infrastructure renewal.
Governor Alex Otti during the recent monthly media chat with Abians for the month of May disclosed that the state’s debt burden has dropped by about 60 percent, falling from N191 billion in 2023 to below N50 billion in 2025.
The administration attributed the development to improved financial discipline, tighter revenue management, and a restructuring of state expenditures aimed at long-term sustainability.
Alongside the fiscal changes, the government also reported a large-scale road infrastructure push across the state. According to official figures, the Labour party led government under Otti has reconstructed about 414 roads, covering about 864.12 kilometers, some which are due for commissioning during the anniversary week commencing from 24th Monday May 2026
In addition the government has commenced construction on an additional 82 roads, some which are due to be commissioned by early 2027. According to statement from the executive governor, Many of the projects are part of a broader effort of the government to improve transportation networks, stimulate local trade, and reconnect rural and urban communities.
The development drives being implemented across Abia State, has re-emphasized infrastructure renewal as a key pillar of the governance agenda of Governor Alex Otti.
