Tinubu’s APC is destroying Nigeria’s democracy

By Tony Folarin

What we are witnessing across Nigeria under the hands of APC thugs is a disgraceful assault on democratic competition. Across, Benue, Edo, Lagos, Rivers, Cross River, Kebbi, Katsina, Ogun, Ekiti, Osun, Delta, etc, the ruling APC is increasingly substituting persuasion with thuggery, intimidation, violence, and institutional capture. Elections are no longer treated as contests of ideas but as territorial battles where opposition must be crushed rather than debated.

This conduct is especially troubling from a party that already commands overwhelming dominance, having absorbed defections that now boast about 32 governors, 85 senators, and nearly 300 members of the House of Representatives and counting. When a party with such vast power still resorts to mayhem against its opponents, it reveals not strength but deep contempt for democratic rules.

If this reckless path continues, the danger is obvious: democracy itself becomes collateral damage. When competition is replaced by coercion and opposition space is violently narrowed, the logical destination is not victory but decay.

At this rate, I am not a prophet but I can safely say, Nigeria may soon find itself preparing not for the next election, but for a requiem for its democracy.🙏
