“This is not a time to sleep. We must remain vigilant, focused, and united until this government is removed through the ballot box,”
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has urged the opposition to stay relentless in its push to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
El-Rufai’s warning follows what he described as an “alleged attempt” by security agencies to detain him at an airport. During a private meeting with opposition presidential aspirant Atiku Abubakar, he emphasized that Nigerians deserve a government that is accountable, transparent, and responsive to their needs.
“This is not a time to sleep. We must remain vigilant, focused, and united until this government is removed through the ballot box,” El-Rufai reportedly said.
Political analysts note that his remarks reflect mounting tensions between the opposition and the Tinubu administration, which has faced criticism over rising inflation, the removal of fuel subsidies, and what some describe as a concentration of power in Aso Rock.
The former governor suggested that the alleged arrest attempt was politically motivated, calling on opposition stakeholders to maintain discipline and cohesion as the 2027 elections approach.
Observers say El-Rufai’s fiery rhetoric signals a more aggressive posture by the opposition, raising questions about how the Tinubu administration will handle growing political pressure in the months ahead.
