ABA: The Return of Ohanku Road under Otti

By Miracle Chukwunenye

A few days ago, I took out time to move around Ohanku, and I can tell you, I was left wide-mouthed in awe at the shocking changes I saw.

Ndi Aba Ibem, Our Ohanku Road, the once “never-dare-to-ply” route, the daredevil zone,

the infamous flooded pool of Aba that used to be a total no-go area until Otti happened to it, that same road which was practically dead has finally returned to life.

And I’m not just talking about the construction of the road itself, which was commissioned by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Not even the cement rigid pavement with a thick asphalt overlay, designed to last over 50 years.

Not the road markings, nor the beautification works with strong, durable, well-cast drainage systems.

The “back to life” I’m referring to here is the kind of revival that follows any road Otti touches.

Just as it happened at Port Harcourt Road after Otti’s intervention, the same transformation has occurred on Ohanku Road.

There is now a fresh breath of a bustling city across that stretch.

Businesses are springing up, hotels, filling stations, factories, plazas, and more.

From the beginning of Ohanku Road to its exit, I lost count of the number of new structures emerging while trying to keep track.

Residents who once scampered for safety during the years of gumboot and swimming-pool governance are steadily returning.

Houses that were abandoned and turned into silent, empty shells are now alive again.

Numerous residential buildings are rising rapidly.

Vehicular movement in this once-avoided zone has multiplied so much that one must drive carefully to avoid collisions, with traffic build-ups occurring at intervals.

You may not fully grasp the magnitude of this change if you did not witness the era of neglect.

Even the “before” pictures of Ohanku Road that is being circulated online failed to capture how terrible the situation truly was.

This was a place that swallowed businesses, dreams, and visions, a stretch that crippled investments.

Today, however, the man whose touch turns things to gold has touched Ohanku.

Watch as Ohanku Road evolves into the next major commercial stretch, hosting some of the most enterprising ventures.

Adjoining streets off Ohanku Road are also receiving the same transformative touch. New markets, at least two, are also springing up along that corridor.

More changes are coming. Ohanku Road has been breathed back to life because it received the same touch Port Harcourt Road, Aba, received,

The same touch Abia State has been receiving since it was delivered from the hands of the last carnage bender, The undisputed Otti’s touch.
