“Wike and his soon-to-retire political allies are desperately seeking the President’s attention to negotiate relevance and to ensure that the APC does not give Fubara the ticket to contest the 2027 general election. They know that if an election were held today in Rivers State, the Governor would defeat them”
The impeachment being initiated by the Rivers State House of Assembly, allegedly under the command of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, is a waste of time.
The President reportedly asked Governor Fubara to join the APC after it became clear that Wike was registering a new political party (NDP). Since this is a pre-election year, Wike wants access to Rivers State funds. That was how the overzealous Assembly suddenly raised an alarm over the 600 billion in the state account.
The President reportedly advised Fubara not to grant them access to the funds in the Rivers State account, because if Wike gains access to 600 billion, President Tinubu would be placed at his mercy. As a result, impeachment became their strategy to attract Tinubu’s attention and force another round of negotiations.
Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, should respond with silence, it is the best course of action for him going forward. His silence is already unsettling his detractors, and he should maintain it. The real shock is still coming. After all, politics is about strategy, not noise.
Wike and his soon-to-retire political allies are desperately seeking the President’s attention to negotiate relevance and to ensure that the APC does not give Fubara the ticket to contest the 2027 general election. They know that if an election were held today in Rivers State, the Governor would defeat them convincingly, despite their claims of having “structure” and the local governments they allegedly seized during the emergency rule.
Knowing the Governor’s high chances of victory, their last option is to prevent him from appearing on the ballot at all by blocking his access to the APC ticket. That plan is failing with major political players in the platform of the APC now backing Governor Fubara, so they have again resorted to impeachment to deny him the opportunity entirely, but this also will fail.
Governor Amaopusenibo Siminalayi Fubara should maintain his silence and respond with strategy, not words. There is no need to explain anything to the Rivers people who already love and support him. He should deliver a masterstroke strategy through his alliance with the President that will completely leave his detractors handicap, that’s it.
