These past few days has had the social media platforms inundated with claims by members of the oppositions in Abia political circle, asking the Otti’s government to show proof of any remarkable project it has achieved with its humongous budgetary expenses, they took to social media handles and take pride in drumming for support in the campaign calumny to prove nonexistence of any projects worth the billions quoted in the budget expenditures.
The group, made up of former beneficiaries of the rot and failures of past government of Abia, some on self exile overseas, in Abuja, in anywhere but Abia, have been running around every social media platforms struggling to discredit the Otti’s led Labour Party government, deceiving the public in a manner that only the blind will give them audience.
Pictures don’t lie, neither is quality governance measured in rhetoric. Abia’s past was a state whose development was measured in deception brazenly emblazoned across billboards while criminals and rascals had a field day in government.
That door of political rhetoric and criminality was shut and the characters kicked out in shame with the emergence of the Alex Otti’s government and till date they have continued to struggle, seizing every loophole to cast aspersion and if possible create enough smokescreen of veiled patriotism to deceive the unsuspecting citizenry and perhaps forge distractions to a government that is busy and committed to the work of nation building. This is what has characterized the ubiquitous social media moonlight flipping asking for evidence of the Abia State budgetary expenditures.
Whereas evidence abounds of the revival and reconstruction of social amenities and physical infrastructures that once defied every cries of development by the citizenry to the past government in the over 30 years of Abia State existence, The Aba-Port Harcourt Road, the Omenuko bridge in Abam connecting entire Old Bende region, the 30 Kilometer Ozu Abam – Ndi Okereke – Arochukwu Road and so many more space will not permit to mention.
I have chosen only this three among many great projects successfully executed under the Alex Otti led Labour party administration as a prime witness at the state of these infrastructures before the emergence of the Otti’s government.
The Omenuko bridge was a classic example of deliberate negligence and failures of past government of Abia State to respond to the demands of responsible governance, a government that were run by the same characters running around social media platforms seeking for validation in their deceptive probe on how Abia’s money was spent on projects that they deliberately chose not to develop but would rather steal the money and embark on wasteful pursuit of self gratification.
Before now, the Aba-Port Harcourt road at any time will evoke a feeling of anger and shame for any road user that dares to brace the challenge of walking, driving or making use of the road for any reason, the same situation applies to the Omenuko bridge, a painful reminder of inefficient and myopic individuals once smuggled into governance to answer the name ‘governor’ for the sole benefit of their sponsors., The Omenuko bridge represented a hopeless situation and a perpetual mockery to governance in the 21st Century until the Otti’s government intervened.
If you dare drive across the 30 Kilometer Ozu Abam – Ndi Okereke – Arochukwu road in the past, you will have your life hanging at your teeth until final destination.
We drove this route during the campaign and it was a painful nightmare of sheer wickedness and deliberate negligence of every influential Abia State person in government who abandoned all these strategic economic drivers for politics of patronage and vanity chase.
Today all that is history and the past buried with the political characters that led those days of infamy and shame.
Their noise of criticism and probe on how money was spent to achieve the environmental development that they failed to establish are overwhelmed by their own moral decadence. Somebody has assumed responsibility on what no past governor of Abia State could achieve in all their years of influence across virtually all government circles and you are here speaking long winded English on how the budgets were spent.
No doubt it is within the right of every citizen to know how the state money taken from the public welfare purse was spent but whereby such mission are embarked upon by the same characters that ruined entire environment and stole money meant for such development, they should be resisted in their attempt to disrupt the continuous construction of the bridge of hope the Alex Otti’s government is building across the 17 LGA’s of the State.
The Omenuko Bridge signifies hope for the actualization of an emerging third urban city from Abia North to be situated in Ohafia and the credit will remain in the legacy of the man that brought into reality such infrastructure of hope and not rabble rousers that take pride in mundane politics of fish pepper soup and beer.
The Omenuko bridge signifies hope for a future long dreamt of with every government administration failing the entire citizens of the old Bende region, frustrating every hope of development until the emergence of the Alex Otti’s led Labour party government.
The 30 Kilometer Ozu Abam – Ndi Okereke – Arochukwu Road has broken the old time jinx that states that “There is no easy road to Aro’ and the credit will remain in the legacy of the man that consider it worthy to reconnect a people and their communities long abandoned and forgotten in one of South East vast agricultural region.
The Aba-Port Harcourt road will remain an iconic reminder of the revival of one of Abia’s route to economic prosperity in the south-east that was deliberately abandoned and its deplorable situation used to steal funds from the State, leaving the Old Abia in a complete mess until the emergence of Otti’s government.
These are projects of the future, the kind of future every Abia state citizen has long prayed for and now with a man whose political aspirations is void of the empty rhetoric of the old order but committed to the cause of complete infrastructure overhaul and economic prosperity, the hope of the New Abia remains vibrant with Gov. Alex Otti as the leader to trust.
