...they regale you with stories of neglect, impoverishment and misery, to make the hate stuck, they invoke the common cause of all distrust and crisis across every part of Africa "Ethnic and Tribe." Now religion included!
Former war lord turned pastor a.k.a "General Butt Naked" is narrating his sordid, sometimes surreal experience of the Liberian war, how they knifed the chest of innocent victims apart to eat their heart raw in a show of courage.
"Butt Naked" is rehabilitating over a dozen members of former war mongers, patriotic fighters, yes, very patriotic indeed-these former wartime patriots are youths whom the invitation to fight for their rights to whatever it was then was as genuine as-eating when you are hungry and eating what you desire to eat -and they were certainly well fed, you can pick the best of any girl from the tribe that has been codename 'enemy' rape her at will and slit her womb if you so desire, you can get anything you want, eat anything, be in complete control of anybody and any situation as long as you keep to your guns.- One of the youth, Ratty, was so excited at the peak of the war, during an interview he said "I love the sound of the guns, it’s like music in my ear, let the music play on, we love it."
During the intervention for a reconciliation between all warring factions, 2 gentlemen were tucked somewhere remote but serene with their communication gadget, the other man replied to an interview question from an anonymous journalist-"We are going to ask the boys to resume the shooting immediately unless the outcome is favourable to our conditions"-Now the fascinating thing about the leaders giving the orders is not about their leadership, their ideas or wisdom but their comfort “remote and serene"-leaders of the other warring party were in a hotel, outside of the noise of artilleries and air raids, having a real good time with foreign nationals of the peace negotiating team while the other warring faction were also at their remote but serene environment dishing out orders to shoot, rape and destroy.
Well, the story was, Liberia was brought down on its knees until not a legacy other than ruin, filth and misery was left.
The ultimate Decision
Today, all those architects of the war are sited very comfortably at government house as parliamentarians, governors, special advisers, director this, director that while virtually the entire youths who fought and fortunate to have survived the brutal war are in the dumps, Bin Laden cried' “With blood in their hands,"-Why not, they have their booty of the war, the diamond fields, power and money while the youths of Liberia continue to run away from the ruins they have brought upon themselves. Next time I see Ratty, now being rehabilitated by "General Butt Naked", he is as cold as a Chameleon, forlorn, dejected and helpless- "They used us, they dumped us" was his cry, not any of the over a million youths that wielded the gun and shot each other was anywhere near rehabilitation under the government that emerged after the war.
"General Butt Naked" for the sake of his new found hope in Jesus Christ, became an evangelist preaching peace and unity and warning any Liberian that cares to listen to desist from their wickedness against humanity, against fellow Liberians and NEVER to let such crisis repeat again. I am certain Liberia was a collection of tribes and ethnic groups bunched into a lump by its imperialist mercenaries as it is in every other African region until intolerance for one another grew to an unmanageable conflict of interest and aspirations.
Do Africans covets their history, do they learn anything meaningful to their existence at all, do the people who run affairs in various African government has any sense of shame-I hope they do. Nigeria, with its daily expression of anger against itself appear to be on the brink of total collapse, doomsday prophets has never seen a vision so clear to boost their fear mongering commerce than now, Do the Nigerian rulers feel any obligation to establish a society whose interest in its people defines its internal policy-I hope they do.
The African cause of war
In like manner as in all civil crisis that literally engulfed former Rwanda, Liberia, Sierra Leon, South Sudan and even presently Central Africa Republic, groups of privileged old and middle aged men sit in the comfort of air-conditioned offices, in the comfort of oversea environment, in the comfort of power and authority they enjoy at the expense of the citizenry, in the comfort of privileges they enjoy at the expense of you and me the ordinary people of this region called Nigeria they dish out orders, they throw up hate speeches, make inflammatory statements and regale you with over a 100 reasons why Ahmed should not sit at table with Okeke, and Abayomi should have nothing to do with Akpan, they regale you with stories of neglect, impoverishment and misery, lets simply use the common term 'marginalization' to make the hate stuck, they invoke the common cause of all distrust and crisis across every part of Africa "Ethnic and Tribe." Now religion included!
They seek audience, they found you and me, the ordinary people, reeling in the pains of hunger and neglect, impoverishment and misery then unleash the vice that has and will continue to set Africa on a downward slippery slope.
In Liberia, it was ethnic and tribe, in Sierra Leone, it was ethnic and tribe, in Rwanda, it was ethnic and tribe, in Central Africa Republic, the spiral goes on, even in present South Sudan another ethnic and tribe emerged few months immediately the so called Independence was achieved and all over Africa, virtually there is enough ethnic and tribe in every region. But before you pumpkin heads will go to war or ever thought of it, let me remind you the consequences of one of the most vicious tool of division, mistrust and eternal ruin in Africa, all the war mongers who employed it effectively achieved their aim; occupy, loot and enslave, whoever is enslaved is a matter of choice and the choice is forever yours alone to live with.
A Note from History, Nigeria
Here is where the animal instincts among Africans is put to test;
Do they ever learn anything, will they ever develop beyond the level of depravity they have been subjected to by all principalities and powers-yellow, black or white.
Nigeria is made up of a larger tribe, the Hausa Fulani in the North, the Yoruba in the West and the Igbo (South East) then among these large tribe there are several others not mentioned often, now subdivided into ethnic clans-all lumped together into the region called Nigeria and for the sake of ease in administration each region selects a leader they think they have confidence in to discuss on their behalf at the central round-table they call 'parliament' and bring development home, among these leaders are local council chairmen or what you call local government chairmen, members of house or representatives, members of the parliament-what they call Senators, Special Advisers to government, State and Federal Ministers, Commissioners and governors who make up the power bloc or what they call National Executive Council.
Now the most unfortunate thing and bitter truth is; that's where the development begins or end!
The group of individuals who constitute this cartel of Federal or National Executive Council by virtue of unwarranted privileges form another country among themselves, bonded in one ultimate pursuit. "Occupy, loot and maim" how they come about that still beats me but like I said; this is where the animal instincts among Africans is continuously put to a test and they continue to fail perpetually!
The Vicious tool of Tribe and Ethnicity
Now come to think of it, all over the world exist tribes and ethnic groups and I can’t remember any tribe or ethnic group that has stood on its own to form a nation, not even in China with its state policy in governance. What they do is to band together to fight a common enemy inherent in all ethnic groups and that is "disloyalty to a common cause and distrust"
The common cause is the overall development of the region spearheaded by each tribe and ethnic nationality represented at the central decision table and the cause of strife is 'distrust in the implementation of the common cause' both physical and human infrastructure. I have traveled virtually as many regions in Nigeria by road, sometimes by air, visited a couple of public institutions-the level of decay and neglect of both human and physical infrastructure is abysmally troubling and in most cases evenly shared so much that at the slightest provocation violence could erupt over what I consider as misplaced grudges.
The enemy at the door
Virtually all regions and ethnic group represented in Abuja claims 'marginalization' until you sit at table with members of the 'Decision Making Body' the local council chairmen, elected members of house of representatives, the Senators, Special Advisers to government, State and Federal Ministers, commissioners and governors who make up the principalities and power bloc-you found out they are not only remote from the 'acclaimed' cry of marginalization, neglect and decay but they are actually principal contributors to the ruins, they are proponent of the drums of war, the ordinary citizens is prattling and eager to fight for-the senator is not utilizing the money he was given to develop his constituency, he is busy with a lot of prostitutes at Transcorp Hotel, Abuja, the governor is not building any factory or even revamp any infrastructure but constituting further nuisance to the deplorable situation he met the state, sometimes he construct a 2 kilometer of roads in 2 years with the billions in his custody and advertise it on paper so much that he gets a media award on that, the council chairmen is feeding fat and living in unaccountable luxury at the expense of the community that chose him to represent them, the ministers and special advisers is diverting the funds allocated for roads and many of the public institutions, the governor is keeping virtually all the money to develop his region to himself and his family and concubines with one tenuous hope-to re-contest, to move or continue to move in circles within the power bloc till he is near senescence . The level of environmental ruin in his domain is sure enough threat to the peaceful coexistence of his people, the citizenry, business or any form of investment.
The pride of Biafra
Now from a careful study, I found out that these characters, members of the power brokers, live in guilt and know they are easy target to the frustrations and angst among the citizenry-therefore to divert the attention of the victims of their excesses and complete disdain to the common cause of the union, they unleash the only tool considered all over Africa as most vicious, the tool of “ethnicity and tribalism" - they shout "marginalization" in a union of people of divers conflicting interest and aspirations.
Of a truth there is marginalization, a marginalization of the Igbos against the Hausas and the Ijaw Ethnic Groups against the Yorubas and then what! The story ends on news headlines!
Let the Igbo representative focus on the development of the region by every means necessary, rebuild the collapsed factories, let their senators take on the projects they received funds for, let their local council chairmen, the commissioners, the governors embark on astute infrastructural and human development of the region, let them exploit their God given talents in industry and creativity, let their businessmen invest their wealth and energy on Igboland, let them transfer all their estates, industries and company head offices in Abuja, Lagos, Kano, to Igboland - then behold the pride of Biafra and should anybody counter such height of development in Africa that the Igbos are capable of achieving, they will be humiliated by the level of industry, technology and creativity that will be established in Igboland.
In the absence of adherence to this simple instruction of wisdom in nation building and the people resort to the dance of war drums, the call to war and secession in the guise of self actualization between the North, South, East and West of Nigeria-The animal instincts of Africans is put to test for the umpteenth time, will they ever learn as the battle in new birth South Sudan rages and Eritreans continue to flee motherland on dinghy boats into slavery in Europe - I have actually witnessed young Nigerians fished out of the cold salt sea drowned as they try to flee troubled homes.
Before you go to war, deal with your common enemy
The people beating the drums of war, do they have any genuine interest better than the Liberia warlords - "occupy, loot and enslave" those who live in Nigeria and witness the deplorable conditions of all and sundry, the callousness and insensitivity of the government and its agents to the citizenry, the breakdown of law and order, have they been able to hold their representative accountable or call for their resignation, we can even condemn or banish them from our communities since they are very comfortable with the common enemy, even the Northern Nigeria ordinary people is taking cue on this instruction, they are booing their governors and pelting tomatoes on their representatives in Abuja for the sordid neglect they have been subjected to, only to sing "marginalization" when they need their votes.
Fact is; the citizenry is bottled up with anger and frustration at the avoidable neglect and deprivation they are subjected to by their own, I have sat at joints with the people you call Almajiris, some of them do not even understand what you talking about, a lot of them are here in the city of Lagos, Aba, Onitsha and Port Harcourt riding Okada to survive, some are hawking fruits on wheel barrows on self help, They do not even want to talk about the Northern elites, to many of the Almajiris this is the highest they could go.
I have sat with the ones you call touts at the Lagos Motor Parks, Aba Motor park, Onitsha, the frustration is magnetic unless you chose to be stone hearted, those who have ran away and beating the drums of war from their comfort zones in Europe, Malaysia and even Pakistan won’t be there when the crisis will begin to engulf all, some ran away from the frustration because they could afford it by any means necessary and has never visited the region called Nigeria for the past 10 years or more, those in Abuja speaking long winded English do not care either, war is not fought on social media, it is practicable until you are faced with the realities of artilleries and casualties, your brothers in Europe will not and NEVER be there to save you from the ruin and should there be a place of recourse to run... Deal with your members of the National Executive Councils now before they flee because they certainly will, like the Liberian warlords only to come back after the crisis and run you a third time after you have been used and dumped!
I am certain Liberia, Sierra Leone, Central Africa Republic, Eritrea and South Sudan was a collection of tribes and ethnic groups bunched into a lump by its imperialist mercenaries until intolerance for one another grew to an unmanageable conflict of interest and aspirations. Deal with your common enemy, deal with your leaders and representatives in government, deal with your animal instincts now!
